What is Tmall Global?

Tmall Global is the cross-border variant of Tmall, the largest e-commerce platform in the world. How do I open my E-commerce store in China?

In order to open a cross-border e-commerce store via Tmall Global and deliver directly to the Chinese consumer. You must be supported by a Tmall Partner Bureau or a TP Operator.

Requirements

There are a number of requirements that your company must meet before you can open a Tmall Global webshop. To start with, your company must (1) be registered outside of China, (2) deliver cross-border to the consumer in China, and (3) hold the trademark right (or otherwise be entitled to sell branded products).

A number of requirements also apply to business operations. To begin with, Tmall Global requires that all products are genuine and that (1) a certificate of origin (Certificate of Origin) can be submitted. Also (2) must be delivered to consumers within 14 days and a track and trace system must be present. Finally (3) all returns must be handled in China.

What kind of store?

Tmall Global has three different stores: the flagship store, specialty store and franchise stores.

1) Flagship store

This type of store only sells products with a registered trademark (® or ™). This type of store must be owned by the formal representative of a brand or someone who holds the exclusive rights to the brand.

2) Specialty store

The specialty store is for retailers who have a geographically unlimited right to use a brand within the Chinese borders.

3) Franchise store

The franchise is for retailers who want to sell different types of products. A retailer can sell multiple products from one brand, or products from various (sub) brands owned by the same owner.
